Long day at HP Ranch today. new numbers for the 2v
« on: Feb 08, 2010, 09:44 pm »
i took my car in to the dyno today, trying to get her tuned was a very big ordeal.

1st pull, lost traction and had to tie her down tighter

2nd pull, more tire spin. had to re-strap the car

3rd pull, yay! traction! car leaned out at 5500rpms

4th pull, after a while of trying to figure out why the hell two gt pumps and 60lb injectors couldn't flow enough to make more than 450, the car stopped making power at 5500rpms..

5th pull, we wired in my KB BAP and the air/fuel looked good to 6k.

6th pull, wtf?! now its blowing out spark??? advanced the timing more

7th pull.. Fark IT, we're done for the day. not blowing out spark anymore, but the car falls on its face at 5600 rpm's and stops making power. plenty of fuel, good spark, 13* of timing, maf has plenty of room left, intercooler is nice and cool, and she just won't make power after 5600. i'm very disappointed. we think there is something going on with the cams or heads to keep it from making more power. my stock cams made power higher up than these, we don't know what the problem is.

the car made 500rwhp and 469rwtq and peaked at 19psi. 19PSI.

something is going on. there is no reason the car should be making anywhere near that much boost and that low of power. we think the problem may be either the stock heads not getting the exhaust out fast enough, or possibly the cams aren't timed in properly? its running beautifully though. is there any way the lash adjusters might be getting pushed down and making the cams not open far enough or something? we're at a loss because there is no reason it shouldn't make 550+ anyways.. no vid this time, i'll try to take a pic of my dyno sheet and post it up.

John did a great job helping me trouble shoot my fuel issue.. it looks like i'm going to need bigger lines and rails but the BAP got her richened back out enough to make a decent pull. we are very stumped as to why the car fell on its face at 5600rpm's.. i'm running stage 2.5 blower cams with longtube headers, o/r h pipe, and flows out the back. the heads aren't ported, but it should be making well over 500rwhp easily! the valvesprings are upgraded, engine is broken in finally, 9.6:1 compression, all forged, D1SC procharger, etc etc etc... does anyone have any ideas as to whats going on? don't just say 2v's suck, i know they do but my hp curve should climb to at least 6500 rpm's and its not..

Might have some ideas what could be going wrong (probably not) when I see the curve.

Too much boost sounds like a restriction somewhere.  Maybe the heads are choking you out?

How much boost are you supposed to make with the pulley you have on it?

Son of a!

Bob, hot damn brutha.... I cannot wait to cruise with you this summer.  Our cruise last year got shortened in a harsh way because your leaky brakes and damn it all we're gonna cruise this year come hell or high water.

P.S.  Those are still impressive numbers.  More is always better, hopefully she's running good all things considered.  That car has been through hell lately  ;)

PS how is the old Ranchero?  Ever sell it?

Kevin! whats up man! yeah i can't wait to go on some cruises. she's running great so far, still trying to get everything buttoned up. i think i'm gonna upgrade my fuel rails and lines next. its a beast to drive even at 500rwhp. the car has seen a lot in the last year, but its all for the better. the 'chero is still chillin in the same spot it was last time you came over.. i'm still trying to get rid of it but haven't put any effort into it because i'm trying to finish up the stang. hows the vortech build coming along?

So far so good.  Putting in the '03 IRS this weekend I hope.  Got the new tranny and clutch in awhile ago - think I told you about that one though.  Put in a Walbro 255lph pump this past weekend as well as most of what I need for the battery relocation.  oh and I'm converting to a full coil-over set up.

So basically I'm doing a whole lot of other ish before I even start the Vortech project.  But I'm about to!

Should be a great summer for cruising.  I can taste the beer and bbq already.

So clearly this is one of the later pulls, because your AFR is good.  If your AFR is good, I would't think you have fuel delivery issues.

How much time between runs?  I'm assuming to run that much boost, you're intercooled.  Any idea what the intake charge temps are doing throughout the pull?

FYI, John's boost gauge runs a little on the high side, about + 1 to +2 PSI.  So you're probably closer to the 17-18PSI than you think.

I think its the stock heads coupled with the Stage 2.5 blower cams, they have alot of overlap and the stock heads are a restriction, especially at high rpm. What are the rest of the cam specs as far as duration and lift? Also did the car do this with the stock cams?
I want a car so violent that the mere thought of full throttle would cause a heart attack. That actually going wide open throttle in would result in nothing less than instant death! http://www.realperformancemustangs.com/

the cams are 228/235@.050, .536/.540 lift 114 LSA

last time i dyno'd the car it was with the stock motor at 10psi and it made 380/383 and peaked at 5750 rpm.

Honestly, I gotta say, what is John's opinion?  I have a lot of faith in the guy.
